WHAT ARE THE HEALTH BENEFITS OF VITAMN D?

Bone Health (Bone graphic)

Vitamin D3 is vital for the absorption of calcium in the intestines. A deficiency can lead to conditions such as rickets in children a disease characterised by soft and weak bones, Osteomalacia which causes bone pain and muscle weakness or Osteoporosis a condition that leads to brittle bones and increased fracture risk) in adults.

Muscle Function (strong arm graphic)

Vitamin D is important for muscle function and strength. Supplementation has been shown to improve muscle strength and reduce the risk of falls in older adults. (Sahni et al., 2013).

Immune Function / Respiratory Health (Lungs graphic)

Vitamin D plays a significant role in modulating the immune system by enhancing the effects of white blood cells which are critical in defending the body against infections. Low levels of Vitamin D have been associated with an increased risk of respiratory infections and more severe outcomes from illnesses like Covid-19. (Murai et al.,2021)

Mood Regulation / Cognitive Health  (brain graphic)

Some studies suggest a correlation between low Vitamin D levels and increased rates of depression and anxiety. Further research is needed on the role Vitamin D can play in maintain good mental health but some studies that have already been carried out suggest that adequate Vitamin D levels may be associated with improved mood and cognitive function (Boden et al., 2014).

Cardiovascular Health (Heart graphic)

Studies suggest that Vitamin D may contribute to heart health by regulating blood pressure and reducing inflammation. Low levels of Vitamin D have been associated with an increased risk of hypertension (high blood pressure) and cardiovascular disease. (Wang et al.,2012)

The cardio protective effects of Vitamin D are further enhanced when combined with Vitamin K2. Another large study conducted in the Netherlands in 2004 which followed 4800 healthy men and women for ten years found that Vitamin K2 reduced the risk of coronary heart disease mortality by 50%, aortic calcification was also reduced by 30-40% in the famous Rothterdam study.

Why does Solray D contain Vitamin K2 as well as Vitamin D3 and why is that important?

Overall health and wellbeing

Vitamin D acts as a hormone in the body influencing various biological processes as described above. It is involved in regulating insulin secretion and may play a role in diabetes prevention. Vitamin D is also involved in cell differentiation, growth and repair and this along with all of the other benefits outlined above make it crucial for overall health and wellbeing.

Why does Solray D contain Vitamin K2 as well as Vitamin D3 and why is that important?

Vitamin D3 and K2 are both essential nutrients known for their roles in bone health, cardiovascular health and overall wellbeing. We know that Vitamin D3 is vital for the absorption of calcium in the intestines, but recent research has highlighted the synergistic effects of D3 and K2  particularly in calcium metabolism.

Vitamin K2 has been shown to help prevent calcification of the arterial walls and research indicates that higher intake of Vitamin K2 is associated with a lower risk of coronary heart disease (Geleijnse et al., 2004) One large study conducted in the Netherlands in 2004 which followed 4800 healthy men and women for ten years found that Vitamin K2 reduced the risk of coronary heart disease mortality by 50%, aortic calcification was also reduced by 30-40%.

Vitamin K2 also activates a protein that helps bind calcium to the bones matrix thus enhancing bone strength. A study showed Vit K2 supplementation improved bone mass density and reduced fracture rates in postmenopausal women (Knapen et al.,2013)

Vitamin K2 and Vitamin D3 in Solray-D are in proper ratios to mutually support their synergistic balance requirements.

Is Solray D suitable for Vegetarians /  Vegans?

Solray D contains Lanolin a wax secreted by the sebaceous glands of sheep therefore it is not suitable for people who do not consume animal products.

How long will a bottle of Solray D last?

There are 250 servings or 500 sprays in each bottle. How long a bottle lasts will depend on your dosage and how many people in the family are using it. If one person is using 2 sprays a day then a bottle would last approx. 8 months.

A serving size is 2 sprays 2500IU (1250 IU per spray)

The NHS recommends a daily intake of 400IU for most people to maintain healthy bones and muscles however current literature is indicating that between 4000IU and 6000IU are required daily to maintain good health.

We recommended working with your doctor or health practitioner to ensure that your vitamin D levels are optimised for health, this might involve testing your levels prior to starting supplementation. You can ask a doctor for a Vitamin D test or purchase one here.  There are many factors that can influence your Vitamin D status such as sunlight exposure, diet, your age and ethnicity so we do recommend testing your levels once or twice a year. However if you just want to supplement with Vitamin D to ensure that you are not deficient then 2500IU per day for an adult should be sufficient.
